SUPPORTING LONDON-based EMERGING JAZZ ARTISTS SINCE 2019

What is Grass Roots?

Grass Roots is a monthly live music event which is fully dedicated to supporting young and emerging London-based jazz artists.

We launched the event in March 2019 at the Vortex Jazz Club in East London, which was voted the 7th best jazz venue in the world by All About Jazz later that year.

Since then, we've also hosted Grass Roots events at Notting Hill Arts Club in West London and more recently at Karamel in North London.

We invite a different band to perform every month, except in January when we take a break.

Our artists

We've had students and graduates from some of Britain's best music schools including Trinity Laban, Guildhall and the Royal Academy of Music perform for Grass Roots.

We've also featured top talent from the award-winning Tomorrow's Warriors Young Artist Development Programme.

Some of these gifted bands and musicians include Sultan Stevenson, Anna Chai, Tanhai Collective, Deschanel Gordon, Jamie Murray, Mali Sheard's Homestead and Tjoe & NTBM.

Here are some testimonials from artists who have performed for Grass Roots.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion

We welcome everyone to our events and accept requests from jazz artists of all backgrounds, abilities and identities to join us on stage. We particularly encourage jazz artists from underrepresented groups to get in touch with us.

Where is Grass Roots?

Grass Roots takes place at The CLF Art Lounge Pop Up in Peckham, South London.

The venue is inside Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts (or Mountview for short) on the ground floor and next to the main entrance.

The full address is: Ground Floor, Mountview, 120 Peckham Hill Street, London SE15 5JT.

Table bookings are recommended. The CLF Art Lounge Pop Up is a wheelchair friendly venue and has a step-free entry, offering complete and seamless access for all audiences.
